Research Group in Microbiology and Genetics (GIMG) has as its main lines of research Genetics, Microbiology, Mutagenesis, and Photoprotection. Emphasizing the study of genetic diversity and population structure of species of biological interest; the conservation of plant species of agricultural importance through the use of genetics and plant biotechnology, genetic improvement, and biotechnology of plants of agricultural interest; the study of genetic diversity of microbial communities; the study of biodegradation of hydrocarbons, bio-prospecting, taxonomic identification and preservation of microbial collections, microbial genomics; genotoxicological evaluation, chemoprevention, and the study of natural photoprotectors.
