ABOUT THE

Program

Conceived under the effort of the schools of Physics and Geology, the Master in Geophysics at the Industrial University of Santander is aimed at professionals in the basic sciences and engineering.

Being the second postgraduate of its kind that was established in the country, this master’s degree meets the needs of the regions to have experts who analyze and study terrestrial phenomena from the physical perspective.

The program trains teachers who stand out for their ability to carry out research related to the earth sciences, such as the exploration and exploitation of natural resources, risk prevention and environmental geophysics.

Profile

The Masters in Geophysics is aimed at professionals in Physics, Geology and related areas. The applicant must be highly motivated by the study of the Earth Sciences, interested in scientific computation and inclined towards the analysis of physics and mathematics.

To apply, basic knowledge in geology, mechanics, electromagnetism, waves and differential, integral and vector calculus must be demonstrated. Likewise, it is required to feel disposition to carry out field activities and for the application of the scientific method to understand the planet.

The Master in Geophysics graduated from the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) is a comprehensive professional of science that demonstrates ethical, political and social commitment to the country.

Our graduates contribute to social progress by interpreting, transforming and generating knowledge in the area of geophysics. Likewise, they actively participate in research and development processes in the prospection of deposits (mineral or energy), as well as in the evaluation of phenomena associated with geological, seismic and volcanic hazards and in the understanding of the environment.

Requirements list

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  • UIS registration form duly completed and signed.

  • Resume, it has to be done in the UIS format established institutionally for this purpose, with the attachment of the certificates and copies of documents that corroborate what is described in it.

  • Photocopy of valid identity document valid in Colombia or valid passport for foreigners.

  • Photocopy of the diploma or Photocopy of the undergraduate degree certificate required by the program, issued by a recognized HEI in Colombia.

    • Notice 1: If the applicant has a degree from a foreign university, it must be duly apostilled and translated into Spanish if it is in a foreign language. The degrees must be validated before the Ministerio de Educación Nacional of the Republic of Colombia in case the applicant is going to study a master’s degree in the area of health, law or other area regulated by national regulations that require this administrative act.

  • Certificate of the grades obtained during undergraduate studies, with a weighted average equal to or higher than three point fifty (3.50), and those of the research or in-depth master’s degree programs completed.

    • Notice 2: In the case of UIS undergraduate alumni, it is not necessary to provide it.

  • Receipt of payment issued by the UIS treasury for the current value of the registration or receipt of consignment in the account authorized by the UIS.

  • For research master’s degrees, certification of foreign language level equivalent to or higher than level A1 according to the CEFR for languages, according to standardized test or issued by the UIS Institute of Languages.

    • Notice 2: This certification will not be required for those applicants who are native speakers of a foreign language or who have obtained a university degree in a foreign language, according to the description of such studies in the corresponding documents.

  • Two (2) academic reference letters, which each professor must send to docfis@uis.edu.co.

  • Research Master’s Degrees: endorsement letter from a research group or center of the UIS or from a scientific institution with which there is an agreement in force, signed by the director of the same, and in which the applicant is presented to the program.

  • In-depth master’s degrees: endorsement letter from a research group or center of the UIS or from a company or organization, signed by the legal representative of the same, presenting the applicant to the postgraduate program and expressing that in such group or entity the application work may be proposed or carried out.

Additionally, to facilitate access to postgraduate programs, the UIS has signed various agreements with entities specialized in educational credit. These agreements seek facilities and better credit conditions for UIS students.
