Graduate

Andrés Mauricio Escorcia Cabrera

Research Associate at the University of Bristol (UK), in the group of Dr. Marc van der Kamp (Computational Enzymology and Biochemistry) – https://vanderkampgroup.wordpress.com/. Mainly in charge of the computational work of a combined computational and experimental research project aimed at engineering terpene synthases. This project is funded by the UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC). In cooperation with experimentalists from Professor Rudolf Allemann’s group at Cardiff University (UK) – https://blogs.cardiff.ac.uk/allemann/, simulations performed by Andres are used to guide the design of mutant enzymes that can selectively produce high yields of certain complex terpenoids. Given the importance of these compounds for the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food industries, the results of this research will be of great relevance worldwide. In addition to this, Andrés collaborates with other research groups in the UK, Chile and Colombia performing or advising on complex simulations of biological systems such as rhodopsins, mono-terpene synthases and lipases.
