The essential function of the Structures Laboratory is the teaching and theoretical/practical learning of the general and particular concepts of structural analysis and modeling through the preparation, execution and evaluation of laboratory and field tests.

Strength of materials laboratory

The School of Civil Engineering invites you to get to know its Strength of Materials Laboratory, which is at the disposal of its students and the educational community. Photo taken at the School, close-up of a desktop computer with the laboratory machines in the background.

In this laboratory, the mechanical properties of various materials used in Civil Engineering (metals, concrete, etc.) are characterized and identified. In teaching, students are able to understand the use of a ductile or brittle material, as well as the control and quality resources for a better use.

LABORATORY

Hydraulics

The School of Civil Engineering invites you to get to know its Hydraulics Laboratory, which is available to its students and the educational community. Photo taken at the School, in a general plan of the laboratory where you can see several channels and conduits where the water subsequently passes.

The laboratory is oriented to the study, experimentation and observation of hydraulic phenomena in open conduits. For this purpose, it has a main test channel (with variable slope) in which studies are carried out on different flow regimes and phenomena such as hydraulic surges, floodgates, weirs, among others.

Environmental processes

The main purpose of the Environmental Processes Laboratory is to train students in basic laboratory methodologies and tests. It also provides students with the necessary knowledge to take samples and to analyze the conclusions and implications of research processes.

Fluid mechanics

Fluid Mechanics Laboratory of the School of Civil Engineering, UIS.

The laboratory is oriented to the demonstration and experimentation of phenomena related to fluid mechanics. Its facilities have the necessary equipment to conduct studies on the properties of fluids (viscosity, density, etc.) and their aesthetic and dynamic behavior. Practices such as the demonstration of Bernoulli’s Theorem, friction in pipes, Osborne-Reynolds demonstration, among others, are carried out there.

Soils and Pavements Laboratory of the School of Civil Engineering, UIS

The laboratory is oriented to the theoretical and practical teaching and learning of general and particular concepts related to soil mechanics and pavement design, through laboratory and field tests. It also offers soil and material analysis services for roads and pavements based on the standards established by the American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM), the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and the National Roads Institute (INVIAS).
