Program

The exchange of information through electronic or electromagnetic telecommunications has allowed more efficient and effective societies in the development of their processes and in the administration of their resources. The relationship between the economic and social development of a country is nowadays strongly related to the implementation of telecommunication technologies.

Given the importance of Telecommunications in the current social scenarios, companies that provide these types of services have increased their operations, generating a greater demand for professionals and specialists in Telecommunications who understand the current needs of communication networks and adapt to the technological innovations of this industry.

The admission criteria for applicants to the Specialization in Telecommunications of the School of Physical and Mechanical Engineering is basically governed by the provisions of Article 48 of the General Regulations of UIS Postgraduate Programs, which contemplates:
Article 48. Selection. The Graduate Programs Advisory Committee of each academic-administrative unit is in charge of the applicants’ selection process. In this process, applicants’ resumes will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • Weighted grade point average.

  • Academic and professional distinctions

  • Work experience in the disciplinary area of the graduate program.

GRADUATE

Profile

Telecommunications specialists graduated from the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) are trained to:

  • Master the principles of operation and functioning of the different communication systems classified according to the type of channel: wireless and wired.

  • Design and configure communication devices and networks, both wired (LAN and WLAN) and wireless, using standard communication protocols.

  • Understand and apply the principles that regulate both networks and telecommunication systems in legal, security, and management aspects.

  • Know and select wired and wireless telecommunication devices and technologies.

  • Integrate knowledge related to principles of operation, technologies, configuration, and management of communication systems, in order to provide solutions to telecommunications problems.

LABOR

Field

Analysis and implementation of communications principles and theory; network design, planning, and operation; planning, evaluation, execution, and management of telecommunications projects; consulting to industry companies; business plan formulation; and teaching and research are all areas of performance.

  • UIS registration form duly completed and signed.
  • Resume, it has to be done in the UIS format established institutionally for this purpose, with the attachment of the certificates and copies of documents that corroborate what is described in it.
  • Photocopy of valid identity document valid in Colombia or valid passport for foreigners.
  • Recent document type photo, preferably in digital format, white background 3×4.
  • Photocopy of the diploma or photocopy of the undergraduate degree certificate required by the program, issued by a recognized HEI in Colombia.
    • Notice 1: If the applicant has a degree from a foreign university, it must be duly apostilled and translated into Spanish if it is in a foreign language. The degrees must be validated by the Ministerio de Educación Nacional de la República.
  • Certificate of the grades obtained in the undergraduate program required by the program, including the weighted average.
    • Notice 2: In the case of UIS undergraduate alumni, it is not necessary to provide this document.
  • Receipt of payment issued by the UIS treasury for the current value of the registration or receipt of consignment in the account authorized by the UIS.
