Applicants to the Master's Degree in Civil Engineering at the UIS must have a professional degree in engineering, geology, architecture or related professions, and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, abilities, attitudes and interests to propose and develop research projects applied to the field of civil engineering.

Graduates of the Master's program in Civil Engineering are expected to possess research, disciplinary and attitudinal skills in one of the areas of knowledge offered by the program (Structures and Materials, Geotechnical Engineering, Water Resources and Environmental Sanitation Engineering, Management and Optimization of Systems, Transportation and Roads, and Geomatics). Graduates will be able to: formulate and manage projects, communicate in a foreign language, act with ethical commitment, interact in international scenarios, learn and update themselves constantly, assume critical and self-critical positions, and to use information and communication technology for their effective performance.

In addition, masters in Civil Engineering will have specific competencies to: interact with multidisciplinary groups, propose integral solutions in the field of civil engineering that contribute to sustainable development, create and innovate to contribute to technological development and to model and simulate civil engineering systems and processes.

Masters in Civil Engineering graduates from the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) have the necessary competencies and capabilities to perform scientific and technological research. In addition, they will be able to perform experimental development activities in the program's areas of knowledge: structures and construction materials, geotechnical engineering, water resources and environment, systems management and optimization, transportation and roads, and geomatics.

Requirements list
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
  • UIS registration form duly completed and signed.
  • Resume, it has to be done in the UIS format established institutionally for this purpose, with the attachment of the certificates and copies of documents that corroborate what is described in it.
  • Photocopy of valid identity document valid in Colombia or valid passport for foreigners.
  • Recent document type photo, preferably in digital format, white background 3×4.
  • Photocopy of the diploma or Photocopy of the undergraduate degree certificate required by the program, issued by a recognized HEI in Colombia.
    • Notice 1: If the applicant has a degree from a foreign university, it must be duly apostilled and translated into Spanish if it is in a foreign language. The degrees must be validated before the Ministerio de Educación Nacional of the Republic of Colombia in case the applicant is going to study a master’s degree in the area of health, law or other area regulated by national regulations that require this administrative act.
  • Certificate of the grades obtained during undergraduate studies, with a weighted average equal to or higher than three point fifty (3.50), and those of the research or in-depth master’s degree programs completed.
    • Notice 2: In the case of UIS undergraduate alumni, it is not necessary to provide it.
  • Receipt of payment issued by the UIS treasury for the current value of the registration or receipt of consignment in the account authorized by the UIS.
  • If the advisory committee so determines, proof of reading comprehension and written production in Spanish language, presenting the certificate of approval issued by the UIS School of Languages.
    • Notice 1: The cost of the certification or test is not included in the registration fee for the graduate program.
  • For research master’s degrees, certification of foreign language level equivalent to or higher than level A1 according to the CEFR for languages, according to standardized test or issued by the UIS Institute of Languages.
    • Notice 2: This certification will not be required for those applicants who are native speakers of a foreign language or who have obtained a university degree in a foreign language, according to the description of such studies in the corresponding documents.
  • Receipt of payment, issued by the UIS treasury, for the current value of the psycho-technical test (if required) or receipt of consignment in the authorized accounts.
  • Two (2) confidential letters of academic reference, in sealed envelopes, sent directly to the graduate coordination, according to the form established by the UIS.
  • Research Master’s Degrees: endorsement letter from a research group or center of the UIS or from a scientific institution with which there is an agreement in force, signed by the director of the same, and in which the applicant is presented to the program.
  • In-depth master’s degrees: endorsement letter from a research group or center of the UIS or from a company or organization, signed by the legal representative of the same, presenting the applicant to the postgraduate program and expressing that in such group or entity the application work may be proposed or carried out.
