GIHENC is committed to the study and interpretation of past societies in terms of their meaning, identity, nation-state political projects, social construction of power, and regional and national political culture. In this sense, its purpose is to develop, advise and present research and outreach projects. The group also promotes the creation of research units in the field of socio-political history of the Colombian nation-state, with the aim of generating and disseminating new historical knowledge of interest to students, researchers and members of the community in general.
