The GPAD Population, Environment, and Development Research Group was based on the Tagua research hotbed in 2004. GPAD is a space in which knowledge interests and approaches to pro-germic realities are articulated through research processes and extension to promote social change. Currently, the group has category A1 in the measurement of Colciencias/2018, which is the product of the work of an interdisciplinary team of social work, sociology, philosophy, biology, history, and economics. A collective that values research as a means and not an end, with conviction about the social responsibility of the public university and the academy in general, in the leadership of processes of social transformation in favor of guaranteeing the human rights of the different population groups.

Dimensions of action
- Encourage social mobilization processes in order to gain a better understanding of social realities concerning population, environment, and development.
- Impact on Public Policy: influencing the design of public policy at the local, regional, and national levels that mitigates the effects of the social problem and contributes to the restitution and protection of different population groups’ human rights.
- Training of researchers: Promote the training of researchers by strengthening research hotbeds and developing undergraduate theses on topics related to research lines.
