ABOUT THE

Program

The Doctorate in Social and Human Sciences is proposed to meet a need for high-level training for graduates of the area in the northeastern region of the country. The program is an interdisciplinary work proposal of the Faculty of Human Sciences that, with the support of the Center for Research in Culture and Society and the research groups that compose it, aims to generate a significant impact in the region, through the study of social practices from different areas of knowledge.

The applicant must have a Master's degree, preferably in an area or field of research in the social, human or arts sciences. In case of having a degree different from the required area, the Advisory Committee of the Doctoral Program may consider the training and particular experience of the applicant, based on criteria such as the following:

  • Professional experience in the area of Social and Human Sciences.
  • Publications in the area of Social and Human Sciences.
  • Research in the area of Social and Human Sciences.

Profile

The graduate of the Doctorate in Social and Human Sciences of the UIS will be characterized by possessing the strengths achieved during the training as a researcher, supported by the collection of previous personal and professional competences and in the qualities of the doctoral program. The graduate, in this way, will be able to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of the sociocultural environments to which he makes contributions with the investigation of the social reality, its interpretation and the proposal of alternatives for the solution of the problems and the needs of the subjects and the communities.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
  • UIS registration form duly completed and signed.
  • Resume, it has to be done in the UIS format established institutionally for this purpose, with the attachment of the certificates and copies of documents that corroborate what is described in it.
  • Photocopy of valid identity document valid in Colombia or valid passport for foreigners.
  • Recent document type photo, preferably in digital format, white background 3×4.
  • Photocopy of the diploma or Photocopy of the undergraduate degree certificate required by the program, issued by a recognized HEI in Colombia.
    • Notice 1: If the applicant has a degree from a foreign university, it must be duly apostilled and translated into Spanish if it is in a foreign language. The degrees must be validated before the Ministerio de Educación Nacional of the Republic of Colombia in case the applicant is going to study a master’s degree in the area of health, law or other area regulated by national regulations that require this administrative act.
  • Certificate of the grades obtained during undergraduate studies, with a weighted average equal to or higher than three point fifty (3.50), and those of the research or in-depth master’s degree programs completed.
    • Notice 2: In the case of UIS undergraduate alumni, it is not necessary to provide it.
  • Receipt of payment issued by the UIS treasury for the current value of the registration or receipt of consignment in the account authorized by the UIS.
  • If the advisory committee so determines, proof of reading comprehension and written production in Spanish language, presenting the certificate of approval issued by the UIS School of Languages.
    • Notice 3: If the advisory committee so determines, proof of reading comprehension and written production in Spanish language, presenting the certificate of approval issued by the UIS School of Languages.
  • Certification of foreign language level equivalent to or higher than level A2 according to the CEFR for languages, according to standardized test or issued by the UIS Language Institute.
    • Notice 4: This certification will not be required for those applicants who are native speakers of a foreign language or who have obtained a university degree in a foreign language, according to the description of such studies in the corresponding documents.
  • Three (3) confidential letters of academic reference, in sealed envelopes, sent directly to the graduate coordination, according to the form established by the UIS.
  • Endorsement letter from a research group or center of the UIS or from a scientific institution with which there is an agreement in force, signed by the director of the same, and in which the applicant is presented to the program.
