ABOUT THE

Program

The Master’s Degree in Didactics of the Language of the UIS trains highly qualified educators to make didactic decisions that favor language learning. To achieve this, the program is based on three axes that constitute its curricular design:

  • Training in the mastery of pedagogy and didactics, which involves the theoretical and methodological training of the educator in the understanding of the dynamics of learning around the mother, second or foreign language.

  • Training in applied research to improve the conditions and qualities of mediation in language teaching.

  • Training in the mastery of scientific analysis of language in relation to language and culture.

APPLICANT

Profile

Applicants to this in-depth training program must necessarily assume the stages of cognitive, procedural and attitudinal profiling in the investigative and in-depth nature, not only of didactics and linguistics, but also of social sciences and educational sciences articulated in an analysis of needs located in real environments.

Applicants to the Master’s degree are university professionals, preferably in one of the language or education sciences, who possess high communicative skills in at least one foreign language and a strong capacity for the production of scientific documents. The Graduate Programs Advisory Committee (CAPP) of the School of Languages may authorize the admission of professionals trained in sciences other than language and education, depending on the results of the admission tests and the correspondence of the graduate’s profile with the applicant’s interests.

Profile

Graduates have the necessary competencies to perform as education professionals with the required knowledge and attributes to carry out planning, execution and evaluation of didactic processes for the teaching-learning of the language (mother tongue, second or foreign) framed in an understanding of the socio-cultural environment of the actors involved in the educational practice.

LABOR

Field

The graduate will be able to:

  • Perform, autonomously, processes of search and critical analysis of information related to education in the language domain.

  • Strengthen, autonomously and with a metacognitive perspective, personal competencies in the handling of language, communication and the exercise of teaching.

  • Generate scenarios of participation of the social actors in the communicative dynamics of the processes of language learning mediation.

  • Express, with the metalanguage of the sciences of education and the sciences of language, the understanding and interpretation of didactic processes of language and sociocultural environments in which educational practice takes place.

  • Analytically problematize concrete situations of language learning.

  • Enunciate, in an organized and scientific approach, the analysis of problematic and complex situations that require educational interventions for the improvement of the quality of learning in the language and communication domain.

Requirements list
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
  • UIS registration form duly completed and signed.
  • Resume, it has to be done in the UIS format established institutionally for this purpose, with the attachment of the certificates and copies of documents that corroborate what is described in it.
  • Photocopy of valid identity document valid in Colombia or valid passport for foreigners.
  • Recent document type photo, preferably in digital format, white background 3×4.
  • Photocopy of the diploma or Photocopy of the undergraduate degree certificate required by the program, issued by a recognized HEI in Colombia.
    • Notice 1: If the applicant has a degree from a foreign university, it must be duly apostilled and translated into Spanish if it is in a foreign language.
    • Notice 2: The degrees must be validated by the Ministerio de Educación Nacional of the Republic of Colombia in case the applicant is going to study a master’s degree in the area of health, law or any other area regulated by national regulations that require this administrative act.
  • Certificate of the grades obtained during undergraduate studies, with a weighted average equal to or higher than three point fifty (3.50), and those of the research or in-depth master’s degree programs completed.
    • Notice 3: In the case of UIS undergraduate alumni, it is not necessary to provide it.
  • Receipt of payment issued by the UIS treasury for the current value of the registration or receipt of consignment in the account authorized by the UIS.

Additionally, to facilitate access to postgraduate programs, the UIS has signed various agreements with entities specialized in educational credit. These agreements seek facilities and better credit conditions for UIS students.
