Four UIS areas of knowledge stand out in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022

The Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS), remains among the best universities in the world. According to the twelfth edition of the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject 2022, the areas of knowledge of Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry and Medicine stood out by obtaining the best score.

QS conducts an independent comparative analysis of the performance of 15,200 individual university programs, taken by students at 1,543 universities in 88 locations around the world, in 51 academic disciplines.

UIS ‘passed the test’ in academic reputation, employer reputation, research articles and the H Index, which measures both productivity and work.

For the Director of Planning, Daniel Sierra Bueno, the fact that the Universidad Industrial de Santander remains in the ranking is a clear and precise message that the programs have an international interest.

“We remain with four outstanding areas of knowledge. This validates the prominence and excellence of the UIS in various areas of knowledge and ratifies the quality and academic excellence,” said Sierra Bueno.

He specified that, within the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject measurements for 2022, the most important focus for the University is publications, high impact journals, generating an important citation index and worldwide recognition in other areas.

Regarding the scores for Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, the strength of the UIS throughout history in oil and gas is highlighted. In the case of medicine, the work of the research reference groups is recognized, which was especially reflected in the pandemic.

The ranking classification of the UIS areas of knowledge:

Academic reputationEmployer reputationResearch referencesIndex H
Petroleum Engineering59,470,180,863,3
Chemical Engineering55,165,367,457,4
Chemistry 52,668,044,731,1
Medicine48,852,554,931,1

Ben Sowter, QS Senior Vice President, said, “Looking at performance trends in more than 15,000 university departments allows us to see what factors influence success. An international perspective, both in terms of research, is strongly correlated with improved results.”

It also considers that universities on the rise have received specific investments from governments for more than a decade. Finally, strengthening relationships with industry correlates with better results in terms of employment, research and innovation.

For the future, the University expects other areas of the institution to have such recognition.

It should be noted that QS Quacquarelli Symonds is the world’s leading provider of services, analysis and knowledge for the global higher education sector.
