Minciencias Classification : A1
The Center for Research in Tropical Diseases (CINTROP) aims to study the population structure and vector capacity of peridomestic and wild triatomines. It focuses on the genetic and biochemical characterization of parasite and virus strains, as well as the susceptibility of triatomine strains to current and new drugs. CINTROP also evaluates new chemical compounds as drug candidates against leishmaniasis, trypanosomiasis, and other pathogens. Additionally, the center investigates the susceptibility of triatomines to new insecticide formulations under both laboratory and field conditions, identifies risk factors for the urbanization of yellow fever, and pinpoints areas of high dengue transmission in Santander.
