Minciencias Classification : B
The Research Group on Clinical Epidemiology (EPICLIN) aims to conduct studies that establish the etiology of diseases, which will allow for the identification of factors associated with disease progression and the construction of predictive models with clinical utility for early diagnosis and timely management of disease-related complications. The group also supports the training of researchers from the Faculty of Health at the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) and continues to advance the development of clinical research.

Diploma in Clinical Epidemiology
Review the fundamental theoretical knowledge of clinical epidemiology, explore the main designs used in scientific research, and develop the skills necessary to practice Evidence-Based Medicine.
To whom it is addressed:
The program is aimed at health professionals or those in related fields who work in clinical settings. It is intended for individuals whose professional activity focuses primarily on patient management, particularly those interested in applying research findings to inform their clinical decisions, both nationally and internationally.

Structure and duration of the diploma
The diploma program will have a minimum duration of 120 hours and the modules in which its structure is subdivided must be organized into 4 modules composed of different topics related to the module.
Diploma skills
At the end of the course, the participant is expected to achieve the following achievements:
Knowledge:
- Define the main designs used in clinical research and know their advantages and limitations.
- Describe the main measures used in research to present the results of clinical studies.
- Define Evidence-Based Medicine. (MBE).
- Describe the steps of Evidence-Based Medicine.
- Describe the conceptual basis for the practice of MBE.
- Describe the advantages, limitations, and elements required to advance MBE.
- Define the components of a well-formulated clinical question.
- List the main databases available locally and over the Internet to advance searches of biomedical literature.
- Know the principles to critically read the main types of articles published in the biomedical literature.
- Describe the principles that determine whether the evidence obtained in the literature applies to individual patients in the usual practice.
- Describe the process for evaluating the results of MBE practice.
Skills:
- Support the development of clinical research proposals.
- Identify the main designs used in clinical research.
- Ask clinical questions that serve as a starting point for practicing MBE.
- Efficiently advance literature searches in locally or internet-available databases.
- Critically appreciate the main types of articles published in the biomedical literature (evaluation of interventions, diagnostic tests, causation, clinical course, literature reviews, clinical practice guides, economic evaluations).
- Evaluate the results of the MBE practice.
Attitudes:
- Develop a systematic and rigorous approach to the practice and teaching of medicine.
Methodology
For the development of this course, it is appropriate for the participant to simultaneously develop their clinical activities since the methodology used will be eminently practical; problems often arise in service journals, external consultation, and/or in different situations of clinical practice where difficulties arise in decision-making related to prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis.
