At the headquarters of the Faculty of Health of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) of the city of Bucaramanga, on June 18, 2003, the Research Group on Structural, Functional and Clinical Pathology of the UIS (PAT-UIS) was founded, in line with the development project of the pathology department of the same institution. This group aims to take on the challenge of studying different diseases common in our region to provide contributions and advances in medical knowledge; for this, the group has an innovative strategy of prevention and education in training attitudes that promote personal and social well-being, through the generation and strengthening of research as a mechanism for solving our problems.

This is how this group aims not only to have its focus on conducting scientific studies, but also to expand its reach to the community through the conduct of field studies to provide promotion, prevention, and control of diseases. It is currently recognized as an adjunct research group to the Department of Pathology of the UIS, by the research directorate of this University, by the Colombian Society of Pathology, and by the Institute for the Development of Science and Technology Francisco José de Caldas.
