The Research Group on Anatomical Variations and Tendomuscular Biomechanics (VABT) was founded in response to the lack of literature on anatomical variations in the mestizo population, which is predominantly represented in Colombia. Prior to its formation, the diverse anatomical structures observed in cadaver specimens during academic dissections or autopsies were not documented, contributing only to the empirical understanding of anatomical variability. To address this gap and advance morphological research, the group established the study of anatomical variations, beginning with projects such as ‘Frequency of the Palmaris Longus Muscle: A Study in the Population of Bucaramanga,’ submitted to the Journal Health UIS, and ‘Variations of the Palmaris Longus Muscle: A Study with Cadaveric Material.’ The group has supervised the undergraduate work of seven master’s students in Biomedical Basic Sciences, all of whom have successfully graduated from the program.
