As a fundamental principle, the specialist trained in the PROGRAM of Ophthalmology UIS – FOSCAL must be an integral person with unwavering ethical and moral principles trained in an integral form in the theoretical-practical field of ophthalmology.
Have a high degree of suitability, with the knowledge, skills, skills, and skills necessary to medically or surgically solve the most common pathologies of the eyeball and its annexes.
Be trained to participate as a teacher, identify public eye health issues, and are trained to take appropriate action.

Know the theoretical fundamentals in Ophthalmology to be able to properly apply the methods, techniques, and technology for the complete examination of the eye apparatus.
Be trained and with up-to-date knowledge in everything related to the preservation of eye health and in its recovery in case of disorders or pathologies.
Know and diagnose diseases of the eyeball and its annexes and the relationship with systemic diseases, at all ages of human development.
Know, apply and perform medical and surgical treatments related to the eye apparatus and its annexes.
Know, understand and critically analyze the strategies and contents of national and international eye health plans such as the Blindness Prevention program to be able to implement them in our communities.
Work in coordination with vision rehabilitation specialists specifically related to subnormal vision or low vision.
Develop solid psychological, humanistic, and bioethical foundations necessary for responsible professional exercise within the legal and administrative framework.
Acquire knowledge and skills that train you for interdisciplinary and interinstitutional work to be able to solve and /or assist in the management of pathologies of high complexity.
Acquire knowledge, skills, and attitudes that facilitate research, teaching, and continuing education.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
- UIS registration form duly completed and signed.
- Resume, it has to be done in the UIS format established institutionally for this purpose, with the attachment of the certificates and copies of documents that corroborate what is described in it.
- Photocopy of valid identity document valid in Colombia or valid passport for foreigners.
- Recent document type photo, preferably in digital format, white background 3×4.
- Photocopy of the diploma or photocopy of the undergraduate degree certificate required by the program, issued by a recognized HEI in Colombia.
- Notice 1: If the applicant has a degree from a foreign university, it must be duly apostilled and translated into Spanish if it is in a foreign language. The degrees must be validated by the Ministerio de Educación Nacional de la República.
- Certificate of grades obtained during undergraduate studies in Medicine, with the mention of the weighted average and the inclusion of information about the year of internship.
- Notice 2: If this document is issued in a foreign language, it must be duly translated into Spanish.
- Notice 3: It is not necessary to provide this document in the case of alumni with undergraduate degrees obtained at Universidad Industrial de Santander.
- Professional medical card or resolution issued by the Ministry of Health, which authorizes him/her to practice medicine in the national territory, after registration with the Santander Health Secretariat.
- Certification of foreign language level equivalent to or higher than level A1 according to the CEFR for languages, according to standardized test or issued by the UIS Language Institute.
- Notice 4: This certification will not be required for those applicants who are native speakers of a foreign language or who have obtained a university degree in a foreign language, according to the description of such studies in the corresponding documents.
- Receipt of payment issued by the UIS treasury for the current value of the registration or receipt of consignment in the account authorized by the UIS.
