APPLICANT'S

Profile

Those interested in studying Plastic Arts should, as far as possible, manifest a taste for art and culture; have an interest in exploring different techniques and concepts of artistic expression and in expanding and projecting their socio-humanistic formation; have a capacity for abstract and spatial reasoning, communicative and expressive ability, critical-reflexive capacity, developed visual-manual ability, reading and writing ability; have sensitivity for the environment and willingness to interact in groups, as well as availability to assume permanent processes of self-learning and development of their investigative spirit.

GRADUATE'S

Profile

The Master of Fine Arts alumni of the Universidad Industrial de Santander will be able to:

  • To perform according to their interests as: draftsman, painter, sculptor, artistic photographer, engraver, performance artist and new media artist.
  • To offer advisory services in the design and formulation of artistic and cultural projects in public and private institutions.
  • To work as an art educator in schools, colleges and universities.
  • To participate in interdisciplinary research-creation groups in areas of personal and institutional interest.
  • To assume permanent training processes in the areas of their own interest, at postgraduate level.
  • To work as a creative consultant or designer, in applied arts and related areas.
  • To participate in processes that promote the preservation and re-signification of cultural heritage and collective imaginaries.

FIELD OF

Action

The links between the Visual Arts program and the external sector are evident through the intervention of its students and graduates, who have successfully inserted themselves in the country's labor market. On the one hand, some alumni have joined art galleries, which market their artistic products. On the other hand, and from another perspective of art, many students circulate their products as intellectual production, which contributes to the development of the artistic and cultural imaginary of the country, with artistic proposals that are beyond the object offer, but rather as poetic devices for reflection and aesthetic enjoyment.

But perhaps the most visible aspect is the impact generated by the alumni in the community, through participation in artistic training processes in schools and universities, replicating their theoretical and practical knowledge and also through participation in art exhibitions, contributing to the possibility of artistic appreciation and improvement of the environment through innovative proposals, which raise the quality of the artistic circuit of the region or even the representation of the same in other national and international areas.

When an alumni produces artistic work, if it is creative, novel, propositive and critical with respect to some topic or problem of society or the world, he/she is generating knowledge from the field of aesthetics, and more specifically from Research-Creation. Every time a professional artist, that is, an alumni, brings to the light of the observer a new artistic work in any technique, he/she is facing the important possibility of opening new paths of artistic expression, or proposing new signs or codes of reading the world from the symbolic. Individual and collective imaginaries are one of the most important universes of a culture, through which it wonders about its existence and its cultural contexts, and those theoretical and objectual presuppositions shape concrete definitions of identity, taste, artistic and cultural progress in a nation.
