Admissions and Academic Registration
– We offer introductory level programs, a prerequisite for access to engineering programs.
– We offer the first four semesters of the following engineering programs: Civil, Electrical, Electronic, Industrial, Mechanical, Chemical and Petroleum.
– We have four technology programs offered in the distance education modality: Business Management, Judicial Management and Criminalistics, Agro-industrial and Pharmacy Regency. Also, two professional programs in the same modality: Agroindustrial Administration.
– We offer two specialization programs: Project Management and Evaluation and Occupational Safety and Health, as well as two master’s degrees programs: Project Management and Evaluation and Occupational Safety and Health.
– We offer advice to teachers, students and the general community on the academic affairs of the university at the Barrancabermeja campus in accordance with current regulations.
– We promote the development of management projects framed within the institutional objectives related to academic excellence.
Library
– Book lending: Possibility of withdrawing books from the library, for a determined period of time and in accordance with the established regulations.
– Bibliographic Commutation: Allows the recovery of existing information in other information units or specialized research centers. Bibliographic information exchange agreements are maintained with international institutions such as ICYT-CINDOC, BRITISH LIBRARY, INIST, REPIDISCA, CEPIS and PATENT TRADEMARK and at the national level, with all higher education institutions and research centers.
– User Training: This program seeks to generate spaces for the qualification and training of users in information management in accordance with the new pedagogical approaches, so that the library becomes a support to the academy for the appropriation of knowledge.
– Guidance and advice to users in the search and supply of bibliographic information sources.
– In-room consultation: space in which the reference and local literary collection can be freely consulted: the LIBRUIS catalog is available for autonomous consultation.
– Internet and ICT access: different technological equipment is available for users to freely access the Internet.
– Database Consultation: The electronic databases are specialized bibliographic information resources in digital format that allow users to consult journal articles, books, national and international regulations, research, guides, manuals, bibliographies, software applications, press, videos, images, memoirs and conferences, among other documents.
– Events and activities: these are the actions that the library carries out with the different segments of the population in order to promote, raise awareness and strengthen information, written culture, art and heritage in the community.
Library Outreach Services
– Biblioteca entre líneas: includes the activities “Hora del Cuento” (Story Time), “Divertilectura Hospitalaria” (Hospital Fun Reading), “Leo con mi bebé” (I read with my baby), “Leer es mi cuento” (Reading is my story), “Plan Lector” (Reading Plan), “Bibliocalle” (Street Library), “Club de Lectura” (Reading Club). The purpose of this program is to stimulate and strengthen the interest in reading in the community, taking these programs to different points of the municipality.
– Biblioteca crea: includes the activities “Cine Infantil” (“Children’s Cinema”), “Taller de Expresión Artística” (“Artistic Expression Workshop”), “Bibliovacaciones” (“Vacation Library”). This space provides different activities that turn the library into a motivating, dynamic and playful environment where users are encouraged to enjoy art and culture.
– Biblioteca educa: includes pedagogical homework advice, support in ICT training, use and management, and support in academic validation learning. The purpose of this program is to provide users with effective information and advice for their self-training in a relevant environment.

Strategy: The UIS Professor as a facilitator of student health and wellness
– Socioeconomic assistance programs
The objective of these programs is to offer and maintain services and economic benefits to the student community in order to contribute to the improvement of their quality of life and their permanence at the University.
– Administrative assistantships
At the beginning of each academic semester, students interested in receiving an economic consideration of one (1) SMMLV per semester, through the fulfillment of 120 hours of support to administrative activities during an academic semester are called. To apply for this benefit, the requirements established in Agreement No. 020 of 2014 of the Superior Council must be met.
– Student support assistance at the regional offices.
The entire process of call, selection, monitoring and evaluation of this program is carried out. It is framed in Agreement 085 of 2015, aimed at the payment of rent or transportation to undergraduate students of low economic resources, whose family housing nucleus is located 10km or more from the headquarters. In return, the beneficiary students must pay a base tuition fee that does not exceed half a legal minimum wage, obtain a cumulative average equal to or higher than 3.2 and perform 32 hours of services.
-DPS Jóvenes en Acción Program.
Inter-administrative agreement 259 of 2015. The university accompanies the beneficiaries of the program in terms of pre-registration, banking, data updating and monitoring of life skills workshops.
– Reliquidation of registration fees
Resolution 606 of 2005. Cases of students whose economic conditions have changed due to different circumstances are studied.
– Generación E (Equity component)
The beneficiaries of the program are guided in their enrollment in the Jóvenes en Acción program or in the process of obtaining support assistance. Likewise, academic monitoring is carried out every semester to identify risk factors that may result in beneficiaries dropping out of college.
– Professional services within the framework of preventive educational programs.
The objective of this activity is to provide health services at a basic level of care to promote health conditions and contribute to the training and integral development of students in individual care.
– Nursing
The nursing area of the University Welfare of the UIS Barrancabermeja Campus, provides timely care in minor emergency situations, taking vital signs, cures and first aid to all members of the university community, and in cases where warranted, referral to health entities will be made.
– Psychology
The Psychology service offers individual consultations in counseling, evaluation and intervention in affective-emotional, cognitive and social problems in order to favor the mental health conditions of the members of the university community.
– Social Work
In the area of Social Work, individual consultations are made in counseling on emotional and family problems in order to guide and advise members of the community who request it, from their social and individual context and the influence of these factors on the individual and socio-economic studies for economic support programs.
– Psychopedagogy
In the area of psycho-pedagogy, individual attention is given to basic learning devices (time planning, learning styles, learning strategies, factors associated with learning, attitude towards learning).
– Community outreach programs
The process leads the activity NEIGHBORS AND FRIENDS which aims to bring the community closer to the University.
SOCIAL VOLUNTEER PROGRAM, which aims to: Build a culture of solidarity in the university community of the regional branches of the UIS, through the creation of spaces for volunteer work where reflection and action contribute to the integral formation and the approach of the university community to the social reality of the institution and the region.
– Cultural management programs
The objective of this program is to contribute to the integral formation of the university community of the UIS Barrancabermeja Campus in the development of abilities, talents and skills, healthy occupation of free time and nurture the cultural process of the region, through the development of artistic and cultural activities.
– Sports programs.
The Student Welfare process coordinates the actions developed by the sports teams, currently with 9 teachers and the following disciplines: soccer, micro soccer, basketball, volleyball, softball, ultra-mate, taekwondo and table tennis.
Additionally, there is a functional gymnasium open to the entire university community, with an instructor who guides the activities.
All the teams participate in internal championships and in municipal and inter-university championships.
