About the

Communications Department

The Communications Department of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (DirCom – UIS), which is part of the Rector’s Office, has the main task of channeling internal and external information in an effective and positive manner and proposing actions to be implemented for each circumstance.

In addition, it has the task of motivating transversal communication strategies to strengthen the mission axes of teaching, research, and extension, leading to the fulfillment of the objectives outlined in the Institutional Project (PI) and the Institutional Development Plan 2019-2030 (PDI).

The Communications Department UIS, a unit attached to the Rector’s Office. It was created through Agreement Number 023 of the Superior Council,on June 14, 2019. As it was removed from TELEUIS, a unit that was attached to the Academic Vice Rector’s Office.

The Communications Department UIS (Dircoe-UIS), is a unit attached to the Rector’s Office of the Universidad Industrial de Santander that, in the field of public and democratic responsibility, aims to carry out a communicative and informative action that accounts, objectively, truthfully, and timely for the institutional work and its social linkage. It promotes integration with other academic, productive, social, business, and information scenarios so that society as a whole may participate in the task entrusted to the university’s public mission.

The Communications Department UIS (Dircoe-UIS) will be consolidated as an institutional scenario that facilitates the meeting and exchange of the university with society, the strengthening of internationalization, inclusion, and relevance, from the generation of actions, processes, and multimedia communicative integration products that, in addition to promoting the development of a comprehensive communicative and informative action, will promote the strengthening of the values of democracy and the social function of knowledge.

Responsibilities

The Communications Department of the Universidad Industrial de Santander will have the following responsibilities:

  • To make visible the individual and collective efforts made by the university community in compliance with the mission areas of teaching, research, extension, and administrative management.
  • To promote cross-cutting communication strategies to strengthen the mission areas of teaching, research, extension and administrative management.
  • To promote the participation of society in the different academic, cultural, scientific and social events led by the University.
  • To encourage the dissemination and social appropriation of knowledge at the University.
  • To maintain the relationship between the University and the local, regional, national and international mass media.
  • To promote a sense of belonging in the university community and in society through media strategies that highlight the positive aspects of the Institution and the achievements of its members.
  • To promote civic culture and the appropriate use of the university city through media convergence strategies.
  • To position the image of the University among all its stakeholders and guarantee its projection as a positive reference of public management.
  • To strengthen the internal and external communication processes of the Universidad Industrial de Santander.
  • To align communication strategies with institutional needs.
  • To channel effectively and positively the internal and external information of the University.
  • To provide permanent support to the marketing processes of the educational and extension services promoted by the academic units of the University.

Press

Information and Dissemination Office: This unit plans and covers events, facts, and activities led by the academic-administrative units of the university in order to collect information, process it technically, convert it into journalistic products (bulletins, notes, reports), publish it in the institution’s own media, and distribute it to external media.

Hechos UIS Newspaper: It is a smaller format printed product oriented toward the dissemination of academic, research, creation, and extension results, using an attractive and accessible language for the university’s internal community (directors, professors, students, and administrative staff).

Cátedra Libre Newspaper: It is a larger-format printed product aimed at disseminating the results of research, creation, and extension, as well as the academic activity of the university, which arouses general interest. Its style should be analytical and contextual, with the purpose of causing interest in the external public (alumni, pensioners, the media, state entities, and the business and trade union sectors).

UIS ESTÉREO: This radio station is oriented to make visible the fulfillment of the mission functions of teaching, research, and extension of the university. Its programming, which is broadcast 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, is strengthened by musical and cultural expressions that have no place in commercial circuits and is complemented by alliances with the Colombian University Radio Network, RRUC and international agreements with RFI, VOA, RNW and RNE.

UIS ESTÉREO «La voz de la Universidad», 96.9 MHz FM, started broadcasting on March 10th, 1995.

UIS AM: It is the radio station in the preferential band that, during its 24 hours of broadcasting from Monday to Sunday, highlights the dissemination and interpretation of Colombian, Andean, and Latin American folklore that gives identity to the countries of our region, the dissemination of various musical genres and educational training programs, and the construction of citizenship and national identity.

UIS AM «la Nueva Radio», Los 670 kHz AM, began broadcasting on May 22nd, 2002.

Audiovisual Production Center: This center produces audiovisual pieces of a scientific and cultural nature as a differentiating value with respect to traditional and commercial audiovisual production. It focuses on the treatment of contents from a didactic perspective, the articulation with knowledge, creation, international academic communities, and the dissemination of the results of the university’s academic production.

Television Information Center: This center plans journalistic coverage of events, conducts interviews, gathers information, and produces notes, reports, and chronicles for the UIS News, which is broadcast weekly on the Zoom National University Channel, the YouTube Channel, and social networks.

Digitization Center Memoria UIS: This center is responsible for archiving, recovering, and protecting audiovisual content that contributes to the preservation of regional and national memory, the dissemination of heritage, and the preservation of scientific and informative productions.

Social Networking: Area in charge of planning, production and organization of content and programming to publish in the most popular social networks used by the University’s stakeholders (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Flicker and Tik Tok) and to perform permanent monitoring, update statistics and obtain averages to increase followers, improve interactivity and provoke influence, and based on this, design new strategies, improve some or discard others.

Website news updates: Area in charge of feeding, updating, and prioritizing the news section of the website www.uis.edu.co, through the publication of facts of university interest such as academic achievements, research and extension results, university welfare, administrative and financial management and the actions of the different collegiate bodies and estates of the UIS community.

Massive electronic mailing system: Area in charge of organizing, designing, preparing journalistic articles, updating the database, and managing the sending of e-mails to inform stakeholders about decisions, news, and achievements of the university.

Layout for printed materials:The main responsibility of this area is to collect graphic and textual information, organize it, give it the best aesthetic presentation, and translate it into digital files that can be used to print information products such as newspapers, journals, brochures, and posters, among others.

Digital parts: This area is responsible for conceptualizing, designing, creating, and producing dissemination and information elements for social networks and advertisements to be incorporated into printed products.

Digital animation: This area conceptualizes, designs, creates, and produces animated pieces in different formats (Gif, .mov, Mpeg4. .FLV, .avi) that can be inserted in social networks, informative and printed audiovisual products.

Promotional campaigns: This area generates ideas, conceptualizes needs and implements innovative, and attractive strategies to promote programs, project products, generate awareness, and promote civic culture among members of the university community.

Media plans: This area strategically organizes the possibilities for publicizing programs, products, and services, both through its own institutional channels and through traditional and alternative external media, minimizing costs and increasing the capacity to have an impact on target audiences.

Newsletter NotiUIS: This area generates journalistic products of daily news, organizes, and distributes them through the electronic mass mailing system to which the members of the UIS university community are linked.

Protocol and presentation of events: Alternative and support section to the Protocol Office attached to the Rector’s Office of the University so that whenever service needs and simultaneity of activities arise, the functions of Master of Ceremony in institutional events can be exercised.

TELEUIS

AGENCY

TeleUIS is the media agency of the Communications Department of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS), in charge of offering high quality communication products and services to academic and administrative units of the university, non-governmental organizations, and public and private companies and institutions of regional, national, and international order.

TeleUIS DirCom Agency’s function is to provide strategic advice in the conceptualization, creation, design, and development of communication products to strengthen academic, scientific, and research, cultural, environmental, and business processes, and thus facilitate the achievement of organizational objectives.

It will be visually represented with a logosymbol that is made up of a head with a light bulb inside that reflects creativity and the permanent generation of ideas, and from them a line that forms the name is detached. The initial letter will be capitalized, the complement of the word “Tele” is written in lower case, and the letters “UIS” will always appear in green and in upper case (capital letter). Below the logo will be, as a legend, the phrase “Agencia DirCom (short for Communications Department).
