About the

Unit

The Postgraduate Office is attached to the Academic Vice Rector’s Office and was created in 2005 (Superior Council Agreement 072 of 2005) to supervise and promote the harmonious development of activities related to postgraduate programs.

Postgraduate Office

Functions

The functions of the Postgraduate Office are currently governed by Superior Council Agreement 075 of 2013 and are as follows.:

  • To propose academic policies that regulate postgraduate activities.
  • To advise the academic units in the development of activities related to the graduate programs of the UIS.
  • To promote permanent improvement and the use of internal evaluation strategies and mechanisms to guarantee the quality and relevance of the graduate programs offered by the university, in accordance with national norms and regulations regarding graduate programs.

  • To accompany the different faculties and academic units in the process of creating new postgraduate programs, especially master’s and doctoral programs.
  • To verify compliance with the operating requirements of each graduate program.
  • To support the logistics of selection (psycho-technical test and Spanish language skills) and verification of foreign language requirements for the admission and graduation processes of graduate programs.
  • To verify compliance with the requirements and procedures for the allocation of forgivable loans and institutional support for postgraduate studies.
  • In conjunction with Foreign Affairs Ofice of the UIS, to promote mobility and exchange of experiences among students and professors with peer universities in the country and the world.
  • To promote the Universidad Industrial de Santander’s graduate programs in the environment, in addition to advising the marketing activities developed by the corresponding academic and administrative units.
  • In coordination with other UIS departments (such as Foreign Affairs Ofice, Vice Rector’s Office for Research and Extension, academic units), manage the possibility of internal or external support to support postgraduate activities.

  • To propose administrative and academic policies that regulate the activities of the postgraduate programs and to follow up on them.

  • To promote the use and improvement of internal evaluation mechanisms, and the strategies associated with them, to guarantee the quality of the graduate programs offered by the University.
  • To advise the different faculties and schools in the creation of new postgraduate programs, especially Master’s and Doctoral programs.
  • To manage the availability of internal or external scholarships to support postgraduate activities.
  • To monitor and control compliance with the operating requirements of each graduate program.
  • To implement training and continuous improvement plans for professorial training, based on the results of the different evaluations of the academic processes.

Postgraduate programs

All applicants for Specialization, Medical-Surgical Specialization, Master’s and Doctoral studies must submit the following documents during the enrollment period established by the respective postgraduate calendar approved by the Academic Council of the UIS.

  • Acuerdo 297 of September 13, 2022, by which the academic calendar of the master’s and doctoral programs in research for the first and second academic period of the year 2023 is approved.

  • Acuerdo 274 of September 07, 2020, by which the academic calendar of the master’s and doctoral programs in research for the first and second academic period of the year 2022 is approved.

  • Acuerdo 287 of August 18, 2020, By which the academic calendar of the master’s and doctoral programs in research for the first and second academic period of the year 2021 is approved.

  • Acuerdo 215 of August 13, 2019, by which the Agreement of the Academic Council n. ° 281 of 2018, in the sense of including a first call for enrollment for Doctoral programs, for the first academic period of 2020, in order to include candidates and project proposals to be submitted by the UIS to participate in the second cut of the Call of the Science, Technology and Innovation Fund of the General System of Royalties for the conformation of a list of eligible projects to be made viable, prioritized and approved by the OCAD in the framework of the Bicentennial Doctoral Excellence Scholarship Program.

  • Acuerdo 078 of April 17, 2018, by which academic Agreement n.° 285 of November 7, 2017, which approved the academic calendar of the research master’s and doctoral programs for the first and second academic period of 2018, is amended.

  • Acuerdo 096 of April 24, 2018, by which the academic calendar established by Academic Agreement n.° 285 of November 7, 2017 is modified, for the research master’s and doctoral programs only in the dates established for the second academic period of the year 2018.

GENERAL ADMISSION

Requirements

.

  • Registration form duly completed and signed.

  • Resume, in an institutionally established format, certificates and copies of documents that corroborate what is described therein.
  • Copy of valid identity document valid in Colombia or valid passport for foreigners.
  • Recent document type photo, preferably in digital format.
  • A copy of the diploma or a copy of the undergraduate degree certificate required by the program, issued by a recognized IES in Colombia. If the applicant has a degree from a foreign university, it must be duly apostilled and translated into Spanish if it is in a foreign language. The degrees must be validated before the Ministerio de Educación Nacional of the Republic of Colombia in case the applicant is going to study a master’s degree in the area of health, law or any other area regulated by national norms that make this administrative act required.
  • Certificate of the grades obtained during undergraduate studies, with a weighted average equal or higher than three point fifty (3.50), and those of the research or in-depth master’s degree programs completed. In the case of UIS undergraduate alumni, it is not necessary to provide it.
  • Receipt of payment issued by the UIS treasury for the current value of the registration or receipt of consignment in the account authorized by UIS.

In the case of applicants to master’s degree programs in the area of law who present an undergraduate degree from a foreign university located in one of the member countries of the Andrés Bello Agreement, the validation requirement will not be required.

REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICANTS TO SPECIALIZATION

Programs

  • Registration form duly completed and signed.

  • Resume, in the format established institutionally for this purpose (Annex 1), with the attachment of the certificates and copies of documents that corroborate what is described therein.
  • Copy of valid identity document valid in Colombia or valid passport for foreigners.
  • Recent document type photo, preferably in digital format.
  • A copy of the diploma or a copy of the undergraduate degree certificate required by the program, issued by an institution of higher education recognized in Colombia. If the applicant has a degree from a foreign university, it must be duly apostilled and translated into Spanish if it is in a foreign language. The degrees must be validated by the Ministerio de Educación Nacional de la República.
  • Certificate of the grades obtained in the undergraduate program required by the program, including the weighted average. In the case of UIS undergraduate alumni, it is not necessary to provide this document.
  • Receipt of payment issued by the UIS treasury for the current value of the registration or receipt of consignment in the account authorized by UIS.

ASPIRANTS TO MEDICAL-SURGICAL

Specializations

.

  • Registration form duly completed and signed.

  • Resume, in the format established institutionally for this purpose (Annex 1), with the attachment of the certificates and copies of documents that corroborate what is described therein.
  • Copy of valid identity document valid in Colombia or valid passport for foreigners.
  • Recent document type photo, preferably in digital format.
  • A copy of the diploma or a copy of the undergraduate degree certificate required by the program, issued by an institution of higher education recognized in Colombia. If the applicant has a degree from a foreign university, it must be duly apostilled and translated into Spanish if it is in a foreign language. The degrees must be validated by the Ministerio de Educación Nacional de la República.
  • Certificate of the grades obtained during the undergraduate studies in Medicine, with the mention of the weighted average and the inclusion of information about the year of internship. If this document is issued in a foreign language, it must be duly translated into Spanish. It is not necessary to provide this document in the case of alumni with undergraduate degrees obtained at the Universidad Industrial de Santander.
  • Medical professional card or resolution issued by the Ministry of Health, which authorizes him/her to practice medicine in the national territory, after registration with the Santander Health Secretariat.
  • Certification of foreign language level equivalent or higher than level A1 according to the CEFR for languages, according to standardized test or issued by the Institute of Languages of the UIS. This certification will not be required for those applicants who are native speakers of a foreign language or who have obtained a university degree in a foreign language, according to the description of such studies in the corresponding documents.
  • Receipt of payment issued by the treasury of the Universidad Industrial de Santander for the current value of the registration or receipt of consignment in the account authorized by the UIS.

REQUIREMENTS FOR RESEARCH MASTER’S

Degree Applicants

  • All general admission requirements.

  • If the advisory committee so determines, proof of reading comprehension and written production in Spanish language, present the certificate of approval issued by the School of Languages of the UIS. The value of the certification or the test is not included in the registration fee for the graduate program.
  • For research master’s degrees, certification of foreign language level equivalent to or higher than level A1 according to the CEFR for languages, according to standardized test or issued by the Language Institute of the UIS. This certification will not be required for those applicants who are native speakers of a foreign language or who have obtained a university degree in a foreign language, according to the description of such studies in the corresponding documents.
  • Payment receipt, issued by the UIS treasury, for the current value of the psycho-technical test (if required) or receipt of consignment in the authorized accounts.
  • Two (2) confidential letters of academic reference, in sealed envelopes, sent directly to the graduate coordination, according to the form established by the UIS.
  • Research Masters: letter of endorsement from a research group or center of the UIS or a scientific institution with which there is an agreement in force, signed by the director of the same, and in which the applicant is presented to the program.
  • Master’s Degrees: letter of endorsement from a research group or center of the UIS or from a company or organization, signed by the legal representative of the same, presenting the applicant to the postgraduate program and expressing that in such group or entity the application work may be proposed or carried out.
  • Other specific program requirements.

APPLICANTS FOR DOCTORAL

Degrees

  • All general admission requirements.
