UIS School of Biology advances towards the renewal of its high quality accreditation

Advancing towards the objective of consolidating itself as an academic unit that from excellence in the training of professionals and researchers of a high level can respond to the needs of society from the biological sciences, is one of the goals set by the School of Biology of the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) in the process that begins today to achieve the renewal of its high quality accreditation.

The agenda to achieve this purpose began this Tuesday with the visit to the main campus of doctors Ana Esperanza Franco Molano and Heliodoro Arguello Arias, academic peers appointed by the National Accreditation Council (CNA) for the development of the external evaluation; who were received by the academic directors of the University, led by the rector, Hernán Porras Díaz, vice-rectors, the general secretary, the dean of the Faculty of Sciences, the director of the School of Biology, the coordinator of the self-evaluation process of the program and the academic quality evaluation coordinator.

According to Professor Jorge Enrique Fiallo Leal, dean of the Faculty of Sciences, this exercise is based on the University’s commitment to continue improving and strengthening its programs to guarantee the high quality that allows it to respond to the needs of society. “The Biology program has been recognized at the national level, has excellent research groups and is working to strengthen them to start the doctorate. We have to strengthen the teaching staff with more doctors, have other lines of research and strengthen interdisciplinary work so that science programs begin to get involved with programs from other faculties ”.

In addition to the different presentations on the generalities of the University and the academic program, the peer evaluators will meet with professors, students and graduates to verify the high quality of this School, which since its creation has sought to train professionals with scientific capacity, human values ​​and ethical and social responsibility, which contribute to the basic and applied knowledge of biological sciences in the country and the world.

“We have already been a high-quality program and what we seek is to continue in this process of excellence, offering the entire northeastern Colombian region the possibility of having high-quality graduates in the area of ​​biology. Our greatest strength is the human resource, we have a group of multidisciplinary professors who address many areas of knowledge of the biological sciences, some multidisciplinary research groups and most importantly, we have biological collections with which we have been working for several years ”, Professor María Isabel Críales Hernández, director of the School of Biology, concluded.

The Industrial University of Santander received the visit of doctors Ana Esperanza Franco Molano and Heliodoro Arguello Arias, academic peers appointed by the National Accreditation Council (CNA) for the renewal of the accreditation of the School of Biology.
The opening of the academic visit took place in the Council Room of the Rectory, with the participation of academic directors of the University, led by the rector, Hernán Porras Díaz.
During this visit, the peer evaluators learned details of the academic program that seeks to train high-quality professionals capable of responding to the needs of society and knowledge in biological sciences.
