Environmental Management

Committee

The environmental management group of the Universida Industrial de Santander is formed as follows:

  • Head of Physical Plant Division

  • Miscellaneous Services Supervisor

  • Environmental Management System Coordinator

  • SGI Facilitators from each of the Headquarters

Environmental Management Committee

Functions

The general functions of the Environmental Management Committee of Universidad Industrial de Santander:

  • Evaluate compliance with environmental legal regulations applicable to the University.

  • Coordinate the updating of databases and environmental reports.

  • Ensure that the actions proposed in the environmental objectives of the University are carried out.

  • Propose continuous improvement actions in the area of environmental management.
  • Train the university community in environmental legislation applicable to the University.
  • Monitor and follow up on the areas that have in their activities the management of waste or hazardous waste.
  • Attend and respond in a timely manner to any situation presented by waste management.
  • Evaluate and monitor the quantitative characterization of residues in order to take improvement actions.
  • Coordinate environmental awareness campaigns aimed at the entire university community.
  • Guarantee the participation of all those who want to commit themselves to the environmental management of the University.

Roles

  • It is responsible for complying with the policies and procedures of Safety, Health at Work, Environment and the Quality Management System approved by the University, and for reporting and verifying compliance by third parties (visitors or contractors under its supervision).
  • Ensure that the good performance of the academic and administrative activities of the University is carried out in adequate environmental and safety conditions.
  • Carry out information campaigns aimed at improving the proper use of services by users (cleaning campaigns, security, gardening, etc.)
  • Support programs of institutional interest that require the initiative and management capacity of different Units, for the achievement of their objectives and goals of institutional management.
  • Participate in the design, guidance and development of policies, objectives, goals and strategies for the operation and institutional action.
  • Prepare and recommend improvements in the policies, standards and systems of its area of responsibility, consistent with institutional guidelines.

  • Participate and support in the activities of improvement of the processes of their position, training of personnel and in the processes of improvement of the quality of the Unit.
  • Schedule and control the work in charge, organizing the activities and distributing the workloads among the personnel under their supervision.
  • Supervise the state and condition of the gardens, green areas, internal areas and common areas of the University and propose maintenance programs.

  • Controls and monitors environmental aspects related to the activities carried out at the University such as: wastewater, air emissions, hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
  • Plans actions to improve the activities of the University from the environmental point of view.
  • Identifies the specific environmental regulations of the University’s activity.
  • Organizes the environmental documentation system of the University.
  • It plans the training and continuous education of the workers of the University in terms of environmental practices, legislation, risks, treatment and disposal of waste.
  • Ensures compliance with environmental requirements by subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Disseminates environmental protection activities externally.
  • It provides collaboration and assistance in the inspection and control tasks carried out by the designated technical personnel in terms of the relevance of the environmental area.

  • It provides support for the control and monitoring of environmental aspects related to the activities carried out at the University such as: wastewater, air emissions, hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
  • Supports environmental campaigns at Headquarters.
    Replicates the environmental guidelines of the University at the Headquarters.
  • It plans the training and continuing education of the University’s workers in terms of environmental practices, legislation, risks, treatment and disposal of waste at the Headquarters.
  • Ensures compliance with environmental requirements by subcontractors and suppliers at Headquarters.
  • Disseminates environmental protection activities externally.
  • It provides collaboration and assistance in the inspection and control tasks carried out by the designated technical personnel in terms of the relevance of the environmental area.
