Minciencias Classification : A

In the Research Group in Computational Physics of Condensed Matter (FICOMACO) converge different techniques, methodologies and theories focused on the study and analysis of physical and chemical phenomena inherent to matter. These multiscale analyses range from quantum physicochemistry and first principles, applied to the analysis of quantum materials, to effective Hamiltonians and finite elements, employed in the study of low dimensional systems, graphene and magnetic systems, etc. Currently, FICOMACO counts with the permanent participation of 7 UIS professors and more than 10 students. Throughout its more than 25 years of experience, it has published over 100 scientific articles, trained more than 50 students and represented the institution in more than 150 national and international conferences.

EXTENSION

Services

The group’s services are mainly related to software for solving condensed matter problems.

The group is currently leading two hotbeds groups:

  • Graphene and nanomaterials.

  • Computational physics research group.

The School of Physics UIS presents to the educational community and the general public the extension services of its group in Computational Physics in Condensed Matter (FICOMACO). Photo taken from stock images showing hands manipulating a pendulum.
