Under the direction of Armando Martínez Garnica and Juan Alberto Rueda, the Historical Research Group on the Colombian National State (GIHENC) has focused its research on the political history of the Nation State, paying special attention to problems related to the construction of citizenship, state agendas, the formation of federal armies, among other political, social and cultural phenomena on a national, regional and local scale.
It should be noted that with the incorporation of professors-researchers and graduate students, new lines of work -such as the relationship between literature and nation building, subaltern studies of the wars of the 19th century, political caudillos and the Colombian armed conflict- have made it possible to deepen and broaden its traditional lines of research.

As a result, multiple investigations have been carried out with documentary sources and with the rigorous application of scientific methods. The results have been disseminated in books, book chapters, papers, journal articles, seminars, and others. It is important for us to articulate with experienced researchers and young researchers, to strengthen our lines of research, and to facilitate the access and participation of students in academic life.
