The Human Genetics Research Group (GENEHUIS) has successfully consolidated various lines of research in human genetics, encompassing not only the study of monogenic genetic diseases but also polygenic conditions. The group continues its research on the genetics of human populations, focusing on autosomal markers and the Y chromosome. It collaborates with several research groups from institutions such as UdeA, Universidad Javeriana, and Universidad Nacional de Colombia, among others. Their findings are regularly published in national and international journals.

The group’s objectives include understanding the genetic structure of the Santander population, studying the molecular epidemiology of arterial hypertension, investigating the familial molecular epidemiology of dilated cardiomyopathy, examining the molecular epidemiology of cancer in humans, determining carrier status in parents of children affected by Lesch-Nyhan-type inherited metabolic diseases, and evaluating chromosomal fragility in individuals not exposed to environmental or occupational toxins
