Within the framework of the current national policy carried out by Colciencias to promote and increase quality scientific research and production both at the level of the Universidad Industrial de Santander and in other public and private institutions of the country, the Department of Surgery of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) on the initiative of the orthopedic physician José Luis Osma Rueda, began a process of revitalization and strengthening of the GRICES-UIS group in 2014, to consolidate it as a model in clinical research in the surgical area at the national level, carrying out these activities at the Hospital Universitario de Santander (HUS) ESE de Bucaramanga.

To make this ambitious project a reality, the research lines consolidated in the group will be strengthened, through the formulation of research projects in each of them and based on the areas of knowledge of the researchers. Research in the surgical area will be promoted through the linkage as researchers of professors from the surgery department of the Universidad Industrial de Santander, residents of medical specialties, and undergraduates in the research hotbed.
The GRICES-UIS group will continue to be a platform for the development of undergraduate projects of graduate students in General Surgery, Orthopedics and Traumatology, Ophthalmology, and Plastic Surgery of the Universidad Industrial de Santander. High-quality research projects will be formulated in which there may be intergroup collaboration either national or international with clinical impact.
