At the Faculty of Health campus of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) in the city of Bucaramanga, on June 18, 2003, the Research Group in Structural, Functional, and Clinical Pathology of UIS (PAT-UIS) was founded, in accordance with the development project of the Department of Pathology of the same institution.
Its main objective is to undertake the study of various diseases prevalent in our region in order to contribute to advancements in medical knowledge. To this end, the group implements an innovative strategy focused on prevention and education, fostering attitudes that promote personal and social well-being through the generation and strengthening of research as a mechanism to address the main issues identified in local, regional, national, and international epidemiological profiles.

Thus, this group aims not only to focus on the development of scientific studies but also to expand its scope to the community through field research, contributing to the promotion, prevention, and control of diseases.
It is currently recognized as a research group affiliated with the Department of Pathology of UIS by the Office for Research of this University, the Sociedad Colombiana de Patología, and the Instituto para el desarrollo de la Ciencia y la Tecnología Francisco José de Caldas.
