Minciencias Classification : B
The beginning of the Research group on Anatomical Variations and Tendomuscular Biomechanics VABT was motivated by the absence in the literature of information on the variation of the various anatomical structures in the mestizo population, which is evidently predominant in Colombia. Until that time, the multiple and varied expressions of anatomical structures found in cadaveric specimens during academic dissection procedures or in autopsies were not recorded and only enriched the empirical background of knowledge of anatomical variability. With the aim of breaking this working scheme and developing morphological research it was decided to establish the line of anatomical variations, initially with the following works: “Frequency of the palmaris longus muscle. A study with a population of Bucaramanga” which was requested to be published in the Journal Health UIS, and “Variations of the long palm muscle a study with cadaveric material”. The group has guided and directed the undergraduate work of seven master’s students in Biomedical Basic Sciences who have successfully graduated from the program.
