The Language Institute of the Universidad Industrial de Santander is a self-sustaining academic and administrative unit attached to the Faculty of Human Sciences. It was created by Agreement No 036 of April 5, 1990 of the Superior Council. The Language Institute has provided uninterrupted services to the region for over 31 years and today it is the largest language institute in eastern Colombia.

The TOEFL iBT® test is administered over the Internet and is offered more than 50 times a year at authorized testing centers around the world. Universidad Industrial de Santander is an authorized test center.

Conditions
- You should arrive one hour before the scheduled start time.
- The day before your test, you should check your online profile for details that may have changed, such as the testing room or start time.
- At the test site, you will need to present acceptable identification and your registration confirmation to enter the test site.
- Your photograph will be taken and displayed at your testing station and on your official score report.
- No electronic devices or food are allowed in the testing room.

INSTITUTIONAL EXAM
Undergraduate
UIS Undergraduate Foreign Language Requirement
Subjects: English I- II- III- IV- V
Portuguese- French – Italian I – II- III – IV
For the undergraduate recognition process, it is necessary to take into account the following information: Agreement no. 375 November 14, 2023. In this agreement, the different equivalence tables were established to homologate with the Institutional competence exam administered by the UIS Language Institute and/or with international exam certifications.
All certifications must be classified according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and assess all 4 communicative skills.
The certification of the foreign language level is valid for two (2) years from the date of submission, if the certified level is for basic user A1-A2, when the certification is an independent user B1-B2, or a competent user C1-C2, it will not lose validity, for procedures within the university.
To carry out the homologation process, UIS undergraduate students interested in fulfilling the degree requirement in terms of foreign language can also:
- Enroll and pass the intensive or semi-intensive courses of the extension program.
- Enroll and pass Youth Program Courses (Conversational)
- Take and pass an Institutional Competency exam.
For any of these procedures, it must be taken into account that the validity of the courses is two years.
Important:
Active UIS undergraduate students must meet the following requirements to take the Institutional Competency exam for homologation purposes.
- a) Not having missed the subject you wish to recognize.
- b) Have taken and passed the required subject. For example, in order to certify English 2, you should have passed English I).
- c) Not having the current Institutional Competence exam. (This exam is valid for two years.)
- d) You will not be able to take a proficiency exam for the purpose of homologation to raise the average grade if the subject has already been taken or approved.
- e) The student may take the proficiency exam for the purpose of homologation of undergraduate subjects, even if the subject is enrolled.

Information of interest to students entering or graduating from one of the graduate programs offered by Universidad Industrial de Santander.
Read carefully the Agreement no. 375 November 14, in this document, you will be able to consult the equivalence tables to homologate, information regarding the certifications, diplomas, courses and exams accepted by the Industrial University of Santander, to meet the requirement of entry and/or exit to a postgraduate program.

UIS Institutional Competency Exam
The UIS Language Institute offers an Institutional Competence exam in English, French, Portuguese, to all those interested in certifying their level of foreign language, (in the four communicative skills, Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing), in order to carry out procedures within the Industrial University of Santander.
If you wish to take this exam for procedures in entities other than the Industrial University of Santander, it is important to first check if the certificate issued by the UIS Language Institute is accepted.

Ordinary and extemporaneous dates:
- Regular Date: Administered on fixed dates scheduled throughout the year. (The calendar is at the bottom.)
- Late date: The application is sent to pruebas@uis.edu.co with a copy in ilanguages. recursos@uis.edu.co
- Modality: face-to-face or remote.
For either of the two modalities, make the request by writing to the following emails: ilenguas.recursos@uis.edu.co, ilenguas.pruebas@uis.edu.co
- Registration deadline: Two (2) business days before the date of administration of the exam, until noon. When you register, you will be assigned a time for the interview on the attached day (15 minutes).
- Payment Deadline: Two (2) business days before the exam date until 4:00 p.m. (face-to-face payment at the bank), until midnight for online payment.
- Value: The current rates can be consulted on the Institute’s website
- Duration of the exam: Two hours and thirty minutes (2:30) written exam in the morning. – Fifteen minutes (15 minutes) oral production exam on the next day.
- Remote exam: It is important to check that your computer, speakers, headphones, and camera are working properly before requesting the exam. On the day of the exam, the candidate must be available 30 minutes before the start of the exam to register, have their identity document at hand, and follow the other instructions that will be sent in instructions.
- Delivery of results: Five (5) business days after the exam date at 2:00 p.m. They will be sent to your mail.
As soon as you receive information about the approval of the Institutional Competence Exam, verification of International Certificates, courses taken at the Institute of Languages and/or diplomas, it is important to request the homologation form to the following emails: ilenguas.pruebas@uis.edu.co ilenguas.recursos@uis.edu.co
HOMOLOGATION
International Tests
As a requirement for graduate programs, the certification of a second language is requested. If you previously took an international exam it must be approved by the UIS Language Institute as follows:
- In case of having certificate of proficiency in English (TOEFL, IELTS, MET-Michigan, FCE), French (DELF, DALF) or Portuguese (CELPE-BRAS).
- The application for approval must be sent to the ilenguas.pruebas@uis.edu.co or ilenguas2@uis.edu.co mail attaching the certificate and a copy of the identity document.
- Only certificates demonstrating proficiency in the foreign language will be approved, minimum level A1 in the four skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing.
- The validity of the tests with result A1 and A2 is for 2 years, validity that must be active at the time of registration; that is, it must not have expired. Results with competence B2 and C have no expiration date.
