The research group in Minerals, Biohydrometallurgy and Environment GIMBA is attached to the Faculty of Physicochemical Engineering of the Universidad Industrial de Santander, and is formed an interdisciplinary team of researchers, professors and undergraduate and graduate students, whose research covers different areas of knowledge related to Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Geology and Microbiology. The group participates in various scientific and technological development projects, as well as in advisory and consulting activities. It has a fundamental arm that is the Laboratory of Mining-Metallurgical and Environmental Chemical Services that provides services to different matrices in water, soil, hazardous solid waste.

The Chemical, Mining-Metallurgical and Environmental Services Laboratory presents the following services offered by:
Metal Analysis by Atomic Absorption Spectrometry [ Cd, Cu, Fe, Ni, Ag, Zn, Cr, Ba, Mn, Pb, Na, K, Ca, Mg, Au, Sr, Si, V, Al, W, Sn, Mo, Ti, Tl, Be] in different matrices (waters, soils, sludge, food, raw materials, and hazardous solid waste)
Determination of metal traces by Atomic Absorption Spectrometry-Hydrant Generator [Se, As, Hg].

Determination of trace metals in different matrices by Electrothermal Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (Graphite Oven) [ Pb, Cd, Cr]
Elemental chemical analysis of solid mineral samples.
Water and Solid Physicochemical Analysis [Total Hardness, Calcium Hardness, Total Alkalinity, Sulfates, Sulfides, SaAM Methylene Blue Active Substances, pH, Turbidity, Chlorides, Total Phosphorus, SST, ST, Sedimentable Solids, Acidity, Fats and Oils]
Preparation of mineral samples: Crushing, grinding, and granulometric classification.
Chemical analysis by gravimetry: Determination of ash and sulfur in mineral and carbon samples, Determination of the percentage of CaO in limestone and limestone, Determination of the percentage of silica in Cales and Limestones, Ignition Losses, Determination of Humidity.
Gold and silver analysis in minerals by fire test coupled to Atomic Absorption
Determination of the Z potential and isle electric point.
