In order to promote the importance of sports and physical activity in the integral formation of the university community, the Department of Physical Education and Sports offers 21 subjects of sports contexts, physical culture groups and 15 sports selections. A wide variety of programs are designed to allow students to acquire new skills or improve those already acquired through their association and participation in the University’s sports teams.

The subjects offered by the Department of Physical Education and Sports for undergraduate students are the following:

The Department of Physical Education and Sport of the Universidad Industrial de Santander offers the program Sport Selection under the guidance of professionals in the field of competitive sports, who plan, direct and control the sports training process according to pedagogical and scientific principles. The subject is characterized by the fact that it offers mainly practical content, focusing on the student athlete as a learning subject with the right to integral training, in accordance with the innovative pedagogical model implemented by the Universidad Industrial de Santander. The athletes prepare each year to represent the institution in ASCUN Deportes competitions at regional, national and international levels.

This academic unit provides care to 15 sports teams made up of more than 450 athletes.

Professional Advice and Consulting

• Organization and administration of sporting events (logistics).
• Design of educational programs, in the area of physical education and sports, physical and sports rehabilitation program.

Non-formal education

• Seminars and workshops with specialists in the different sports modalities.
• Diplomas and theoretical-practical training in physical activity, recreation and sports sciences.

Promotion of Sport

• Organization and direction of recreational-recreational and sports activities for the university community.
• Intramural sports and recreational activities and participation of the sports teams in the departmental, regional and national knockout phases of ASCUN Deportes.

Rental of Sports Stages

The loan of sports venues is enabled for the university community in general free of charge. For people outside the university, the sports venues are rented by the hour and each space has a specific value.

For the reservation of any scenario it is necessary to approach the office of the Department of Physical Education and Sports, more than three days in advance to check availability and fill out the reservation form of sports venues along with the letter of commitment of biosecurity protocols; also for people outside the university, it is necessary to attach the list of people who will enter the sports areas.

Within the Policies of the Department of Sports is the development of educational sports practices, which aim to contribute to a comprehensive training along with physical activity, aimed at the entire UIS community in the different disciplines that are carried out in the programmed and institutionalized sporting events such as: the UIS Athletic Career, the Inter-Rock Sports Tournament, Sports Olympics, University Sports Week, Inter-Faculties, Inter-Venues and Alternate Olympics.

To that extent, the Department of Physical Education and Sports cordially invites UIS students to participate in the sports programs and scenarios available on the university campus.
