About
The Unit
The Planning Department is in charge of institutional planning in accordance with the mission, objectives, and policies established by the Superior Council, the Academic Council, and the Rector. This department promotes the dissemination, promotion, and consolidation of a continuous process of integration and participatory planning. It advises and trains all university departments in the planning process. It is a technical unit and the support and consultation body of the university management. Advise the rector on the equitable distribution of physical and logistical resources.

Duties
- Advising and supporting institutional planning, within the horizon of the Mission, Objectives and Policies established by the Superior Council, the Academic Council and the Rector.
- Providing and reporting to internal and external entities of the University the required information and conducting studies that contribute to institutional decision making.
- Coordinating the Institutional Planning related to the Budget and Management Program, oriented to the different Units of the University.

- Consulting, reviewing and giving opinions on the creation, modification and extension of Academic Programs, in accordance with the postulates of the Institutional Project and the University’s Development Plan.
- Coordinating the formulation and evaluation of investment programs and projects developed by the different Academic and Administrative Units of the University.
- Advising the different academic-administrative units in the determination of Facility needs for the operation and development of investment plans and in the definition of priorities.
- Organizing and analyzing the primary information generated by the University and designing mechanisms to build new information and models for its analysis in order to satisfy the requirements of external entities as well as the needs of the University and the community in general.
Historical
Overview
In 1958, by agreement of the Board of Trustees on January 23, 1958, the position of Head of the Planning Department was created, and Dr. Antonio Michaeler was appointed as of February 1, 1958. The Planning Unit appears in the organizational structure as an advisory unit of the University Management.

In 1970, it was renamed Planning Department; in 1982, in the reform of the structure approved by the Superior Council through agreement 053, the unit was renamed Planning Office; and in 1994, in the reform of the organizational structure approved by agreement 057 of the Superior Council, it was changed to Planning, its current name.
In 2017, by Superior Council Agreement 024, the Information and Statistical Analysis Unit – UIAES, was created as a unit attached to Planning, responsible for organizing and analyzing the primary information that the university generates and designing the mechanisms that allow building new information and models for its analysis to meet both the requirements of external entities and the university’s own needs and those of the community in general.
