Minciencias Classification : A1

The Center for Research in Catalysis (CICAT-UIS) was created by the resolution of the Superior Council of the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) on 24 September 1986 and moved to the UIS Guatiguará headquarters ten years later. It was founded by the teachers: Aristóbulo Centeno and Alvaro Ramírez García of the School of Chemical Engineering and Edgar Páez Mozo of the School of Chemistry.   CICAT-UIS was born with the idea of promoting research in the field of catalysis in the UIS and with the aim of generating scientific knowledge on the design of catalytic materials and technologies according to the specific needs of the country. THE research activities of the CICAT-UIS have focused on providing solutions for various environmental problems and in the development of processes to add value to local raw materials.

Throughout its history, THE CICAT-UIS has contributed to the training of researchers at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. pre In this time, its members have published more than 200 scientific articles and have the category of maximum recognition and the ranking of Minciencias.

Currently, the group develops its own projects and in collaboration with Ecopetrol and other companies in various sectors. The group’s extension activities include advisory services in the design of industrial experimentation and the determination of solids properties such as porosity, chemical quantification of surfaces, acidity measurement, particle size distributions, and reactivity in continuous and batch systems in gaseous and liquid phases.
